my wife and i live in a small town in northern new jersey.
there is a building near our house that, many decades ago, used to be the local post office.
it sat idle for many years, but a couple of years ago, some folks bought it and renovated it into a nice little cafe.
Thanks, NeonMadman, for sharing.

thanks very much to posters from uk, australia, new zealand, canada, et al.. as an editor, i must keep up with what is current re: so-called standard english.
english speaking posters outside the united states have presented me with copious writing samples that i have had to research: grammar; spelling; punctuation; etc.. i learned from the following link that american writers' exclusive use of "different from" when stating contrast does present problems in syntactical construction.
"different to" and "different than" (wrongly maligned) have both been around a long time, but it's you fellow posters across the ponds and borders who've opened up these narrow eyes and mind.. talk about a strange reason for gratitude .
Thanks, Xanthippe:

When the watchful couples make it outside during a lull in the waves of the Great Tribulation, they will surely thank Jehovah for providing the cabbage and bunch of carrots that have washed down the gutter to their front door.

what's up with jw parents taking their minor children to such desolate places?
like the english family that took their little kids to the jungles of ecuador, and the australians that took their little ones to norfolk island where hardly anyone lives, and they are the only children in a congregation of 11 publishers?
is this a new form of child abuse?
Not exactly the same scenario, but I was a Bethelite "missionary, circa 1970. In the foreign field, we bros spent all weekend and a few week nights building up "nuclei" into congregations. Often, we traveled to upstate New York doing the same. Giving hour talks on Sunday and conducting meetings. Before getting regular, rented Halls, we would set up for meetings in community centers, transporting sound equipment in a baby buggy from a brother's apartment to the center. Great fun on a week night, traveling by subway to and from!
It was exciting and fulfilling because the Caribbean folk were so warm and hospitable. Most importantly, they were amenable to our message. It was not unusual both to preach to and to teach a room full of people in a private home. We also assisted them in personal matters. Many were family men who worked secularly in Brooklyn, NYC, etc. to provide for their impoverished families back in the islands.
Downside: Some of us young guys burnt out physically and spiritually. I don't regret the experience, but young, dedicated JWs can become depleted spiritually and physically. It took me years to recover . . .

start at 1 samuel 18;1-4..now imagine if this story had been about jonathan and a woman.. 1 samuel 20:30..saul calls jonathan a son of a perverse rebellious woman!
the blame for his.
behavior goes first to the mother, who was too soft," or too harsh who perverted his son somehow.. 1 samuel 20:41-42.."they kissed each other and wept with each other".. so was it merely deep friendship or a romantic relationship?.
I Know Saul was upset because Jonathan warned David about his (Saul) intention, to have
David killed. But to use the word perverse , what's up with that.
Hi James:
I'm not sure if this is your point, but perverse and perverted are different in meaning. Perverse means obstinate or resistant to what's acceptable (like Jonathan's mother, according to Saul). Perverted means deviant regarding sexual behaviors.

to be considered at congregation bible study.
Successive volumes are planned for subsequent years. THis provision makes allowances for "adjustments" in rules with the passing of time. -- steve2
In my ongoing study of English literature and grammar, I find a curious connection between "retcon" and WT modus operandi:
There are various motivations for applying retroactive continuity. The changes may occur to accommodate sequels or derivative works, allowing newer authors or creators to revise the diegetic (in-story) history to include a course of events that would not have been possible in the story's original continuity. Retcons allow for authors to reintroduce popular characters and resolve errors in chronology. Another form of retroactive continuity involves placing well-known characters in a parallel universe. This approach can be used to allow familiar elements of a story to be explored in an entirely new context, without affecting external elements. Additionally, this approach can be used to retcon former events in a franchise timeline.

Does anyone here recall the Murphy Brown and Dan Quayle "controversy" over family values?

urghhh... what a disgusting study!7 a conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped.
for example, a sister named anne received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother.
the mother wanted to visit anne because she felt pained by her isolation from the family.
Even when no longer an elder, I would talk to and encourage (according to the so-called scriptural methods) disfellowshipped individuals. I do so now, even on FB. There are so many former JWs in my area, although not all of them are disfellowshipped.
People are people and need love and help. WT rules no longer hold me in awe and fear.
Enough already . . .
